Your Rights (and what you can do if you feel they aren’t being respected)

At Tui Ora we work hard to make sure seeing us is a mana-affirming experience. When you come to us you have the right to be treated with respect while you receive a great standard of care. We’ll take the time to listen to you and make sure you are fully informed about your situation and options you have.

You are protected by a Code of Rights. If you feel you’ve been let down, you can korero with Tui Ora on 0800 TUIORA or the Health and Disability Commissioner on 0800 11 22 33.

 

You have the right to:

The Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers’ Rights sets out the rights everyone has when accessing a health or disability service in New Zealand. It says that when you visit Tui Ora you have the right to:

Be treated with RESPECT – including respect for your culture, values and beliefs.

Receive FAIR TREATMENT. No one will discriminate against you, pressure you or take advantage of you in any way.

Have your DIGNITY and INDEPENDENCE respected by our entire team.

You have the right to:

Receive services of an APPROPRIATE STANDARD – that is, you get the right help, delivered with care and skill by people working in your best interests.

GOOD COMMUNICATION – we will listen to you and give you easily understandable information in ways that work for you.

Be FULLY INFORMED. You are encouraged to ask questions. We want you to understand where you stand, what your options are, and what benefits or side-effects might come with them.

DECIDE FOR YOURSELF what’s best for your whānau – and know you can change your mind at any time.

You have the right to:

Bring SUPPORT with you or have someone from Tui Ora support you.

All these rights also apply if you are taking part in teaching, training or research.
